Mercedes with McLaren for More than a Decade

Filed under: Uncategorized — sunil @ 3:46 am

When you start looking at and asking how long Mercedes-Benz has been connected with the McLaren Group you will need to go back Fifteen Years (back to the 1994 season). You might be asking why Mercedes-Benz decided that they were going to team up with the McLaren Group in Formula 1 (F1) racing; we will counter this with the thought: why wouldn’t they choose to partner with this Championship winning race team. Those that are fans of F1 racing are likely to know that the partnership between Mercedes-Benz and the McLaren Group to form McLaren Mercedes Racing (better known as Team McLaren Mercedes) has been pretty successful for the past 15 years.

If you really sit back and start thinking about why a manufacturer that has as long a history as Mercedes-Benz obviously does would decide to get involved in something like Formula 1 (or any other type of auto racing) you really need to think about the worldwide publicity and coverage that Mercedes gets by being put of such a celebrated sport. There are Formula 1, Indy Racing League (IRL) and Can-Am Racing fans all over the world, so there is no doubt that Mercedes-Benz is going to get some of the best publicity that they could ever ask for in the world. Those that run both Mercedes-Benz and the McLaren Group are well aware of how expensive it really is to sponsor and run a world-class Championship winning race team, so they all do the very best possible to keep Mercedes in the spotlight by winning races and championships often.

Mercedes Involved In Auto Racing More Than Six Decades

Filed under: motor sport, safety — sunil @ 8:12 am

The fact that Mercedes (Mercedes-Benz) has been actively involved in the world of auto racing and motor sports (motorcycle racing as well as F1 and IRL) for more than six decades (60 years) is something that you auto racing fans may or may not already know about. If you were not aware that Mercedes has been the power plant behind some of the best known wins in auto racing all over the world you might want to start doing a bit of reading to get to know the history of the sport that you love to watch, listen to and cheer for.

One thing (or should we say many of the things) that Mercedes-Benz has been known for is all of the safety innovations that they have built into their cars (both race cars and passenger cars) are safety measures that have kept many of the race drivers from getting seriously injured or killed during the course of a race (this also extends to the passenger cars that Mercedes-Benz builds). In this way it really can be said that the innovations that have made auto racing much safer over the past few decades have paved the way for much safer passenger cars that travel the roads everyday. The Anti-lock Brakes (or ABS anti-locking braking system), Airbags and Crash Crumple Zones that have made our everyday commuting and travels much safer have come about as a result of needing to make sure that race car drivers are able to walk away from serious crashes on track.

McLaren Mercedes is a Name Familiar to Formula 1 Fans

Filed under: Uncategorized — sunil @ 10:38 am

If you are a fan of motor racing in general and Formula 1 (F1) racing specifically there is no doubt whatsoever that you recognize that name McLaren Mercedes. You racing fan that are reading this might be saying that you definitely recognize the name McLaren Mercedes even if you do not root for any of the McLaren Mercedes drivers. You might (or might not) know specifically what the McLaren Group got involved with F1 racing to begin with.

There is a great deal that could be said about the McLaren Group’s connection with Formula 1 Racing; yet the one thing that we will say is that Bruce McLaren (for who the team is named) formed his original racing team (originally called Bruce McLaren Motor Racing Limited) and was the very first driver for the team. That team made its debut at the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix in 1966. What is tragic is that Bruce McLaren was killed during testing on Can-Am’s Goodwood Circuit in 1970; yet the McLaren Team just kept going after that to keep his name and legacy alive. After McLaren’s death the team’s name was changed to reflect the changes in the team and to reflect the fact that they also became in the Indy Racing League (IRL) and also in Can-Am (Canadian-American) Racing. The answer to your question about when McLaren Group became known as McLaren Mercedes is either 1997 or 1998. McLaren Mercedes actually has one Constructors’ World Championship which the team earned in 1998.

Mercedes New Partnership Is Good For The Environment

Mercedes-Benz UK has partnered with Norfolkline regarding the import strategy. This new import strategy allows Mercedes-Benz to reduce transportation cost and save fuel. Moreover, this will directly lower carbon emissions as the new shipping arrangement cuts about 220 miles that have to be traveled earlier.

Norfolkline has recently re-established the Rosyth-Zeebrugge route and Mercedes Benz UK has agreed to use the new route to import vehicles to Scotland and northern areas of England. Killingholme is the port which was previously used for such import. When the old port was used, cars must be transported to the destinations after traveling for about 274 miles on road. Now, the new route helps the transporters to travel for just 15 miles to deliver cards to Edinburgh. This huge savings in transportation will result in several gallons of fuel to be saved.

Experts have stated that the new Rosyth-Zeebrugge route will save 171, 889 litres of fuel and reduce CO2 emissions by 464,100 kgs. Mercedes Benz UK has accepted to use the ferry service of Norfolkline thrice a week to transport its cars to Scotland. Norfolkline offers its magnificent Scottish Viking vessel for the purpose of import of Mercedes Benz UK cars.

The logistics manager of Mercedes Benz UK is happy with the new route as it saves several miles that have to be traveled otherwise. The route director of Rosyth-Zeebrugge is also happy because the partnership with Mercedes Benz UK has encouraged everyone to provide the new service. Apart from cost savings, this new venture has credited Mercedes Benz UK to be one of the companies that has taken a business decision causing least pollution.

Lewis Hamiliton Mercedes Road Safety

Filed under: safety — admin @ 2:27 pm

Of course Mercedes has a tradition within motor racing and currently supply engines for McLaren and more recently Brawn racing. Last year Mclaren driver Lewis Hamilton won the F1 championship with the Mercedes engine and although the success is not going his was this year, his youth has influenced many young drivers who want to enter the sport. This makes Lewis an ideal choice to encourage young drivers to stick to the speed limits and be responsible behind the wheel.
This Mercedes news pieces reports that Lewis wants young drivers to go to the Karting track if they want to drive at speed, within a controlled environment. Hopefully this advice and influence will reduce the deaths from 1.3m to a target of 900,000, although everyone wants to see this figure at zero.

As Mercedes have launched a “Driving Academy” in Weybridge, Lewis was there to give the project the best start, where drivers as young as 12 years old can participate. Hopefully learning sensible driving at an early age will influence future driving.
